The Siuslaw River offers spectacular fall Chinook salmon and winter steelhead fisheries. Fall Chinook enter the system in late August and continue through mid-November. These fish are pursued from my jet boat in the tide water section of the river using mostly conventional tackle techniques such as trolling spinners, herring, kwik-fish or using a bobber and egg type rig.

In December the first winter steelhead begin ascending the river and continue running through late February. These trips are normally drift boat trips where anglers use conventional tackle or fly fish for these 6 to 8 pound “silver bullets”.
